Senior Accountant
Energetiq Technology (the Company), is a high-growth developer and manufacturer of short wavelength light sources for use in advanced scientific and engineering applications.
Energetiq is seeking a Senior Accountant with strong analytical skills. We need someone that will take ownership of this key role, is flexible and welcomes the challenge and reward of working with a small, fast moving organization with a dynamic senior management team. This position will offer a motivated individual broad exposure and opportunity to grow professionally by immediate participation in the entire finance, reporting, and accounting process. We are looking for an individual who is prepared to take on current detailed work while at the same time has the vision to help prepare the firm for expected growth in assets and personnel. This position reports to the Controller.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
- Assume a leadership role in the preparation and analytics of the monthly internal financial reporting package each accounting period provided to Senior Management with analysis to facilitate understanding, interpreting and reporting the financial results.
- Lead in the design, implementation, and maintenance of new and improved management reports using Prophix.
- Working with the Controller, prepare the monthly and quarterly reports to the Company’s parent.
General Accounting
- Participate in and assist Controller to oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including:
- Month, quarter, and year-end process
- Accounts receivable
- Cash receipts and daily cash maintenance
- Expenditure variance analysis for assigned cost centers
- Revenue and Cost of Goods Sold analytics and product margin analytics
- Responsible for preparing trial balances by maintaining all accounts and keeping accurate and up-to-date sub-ledgers and supporting schedules.
- Mentor Staff Accountants, complete journal entries and account reconciliations in connection with month-end closings
- Other project work as required.
Cost Accounting
- Assume a leadership role in the daily operations of cost accounting function including:
- Review manufacturing WIP and function as subject matter expert on direct product costs
- Ensure accurate recognition and reporting of inventory-related costs
- Oversee the reconciliation of inventory accounts to ensure accurate inventory reporting
- Assist required system maintenance to set up new inventory items, creation and maintenance of bills of materials, record shipments, scrap/adjustments, transfers, and other inventory-related transactions
- Manage and support E&O, scrap, and inventory reserves
- Partner with internal business partners such as supply chain and operations ensuring transparency of materials movements and costing, including but not limited to heavy oversight regarding physical inventory / cycle counting scoping, processes and procedures
- Analyze actual costs and prepare monthly reports comparing actuals to forecasted production costs
Project Accounting
- Manage and oversee transactions by project including:
- Project creation and maintenance (non-capex)
- Materials and labor reporting
- Budget vs. actual spending analysis, in partnership with Business Analyst
Budget / Forecasting
- Support Controller in preparing Energetiq’s quarterly forecasts
- Support Controller in preparing budgets/forecasts for the upcoming year and 3/5-year periods as needed.
External Audit/Tax Liaison
- Prepare supporting documents and schedules for Company’s income tax return preparers and review support prepared by accounting team
- Prepare supporting documents and schedules for Company’s external auditors and review support prepared by accounting team related to:
- Mid-year financial statement review, and
- Year-end financial statement audit.
Internal Controls
- Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions
- Continue to develop and assist with the implementation and adherence to policies and procedures necessary to maintain and improve internal controls, including documentation of such.
Third Party Vendor Management
- Maintain relationships with attorneys, bankers, and other third-party service providers.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven working experience as Senior Accountant
- A mindset for quality, accuracy and timeliness required.
- BS in accounting and experience with financial statement preparation is required
- Approximately 5+ years of experience with manufacturing
- Excellent Excel and Word skills required, experience with Syspro or a similar ERP system and Prophix a plus.
- Ability to manipulate large amounts of data.
- Experience with SOX compliance a plus.
- Outstanding organizational skills, flexibility and the ability to work independently while simultaneously handling multiple priorities and meeting time deadlines required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are required.
- Ability to direct and supervise junior staff on projects and other ad hoc initiatives
